How to Find the Perfect Sexy Bra

Finding the perfect sexy bra can feel like searching for a unicorn. You want to believe it exists, but the more and more you look, the more you realize just how rare it is to find. Many times, failed attempts to find the perfect sexy bra can make you feel like it’s an impossible quest, but we’re here to tell you it’s not!

See, to find the perfect sexy bra that matches your style and your body, you need to take a step back and look at your current bras. What do you like about them? What don’t you like about them? Maybe one bra style never quite fits you right, or maybe another uses a fabric that’s serially uncomfortable. To find the sexy bra that’s right for you, you’ve got to assess the things you’re looking for in a bra. Then, by the process of elimination, you can narrow down your choices, eventually leading you to the most comfortable, flattering, and perfect sexy bra for your shape and style.

If you need a little help going through the sexy bra buying process, here are our best tips for finding the perfect match.

Fact about Bras and Breasts

First, it’s best to know what you’re dealing with. These facts about bras and breasts should give you a better understanding of why choosing the right bra matters.

  • Bras tend to last only six to nine months. If you haven’t purchased a new brassiere in a while, it’s time to donate the old ones and treat your ta-tas to something more supportive.
  • About 85% of women are wearing the wrong bra size. Yikes. We’ll help you with that.
  • Bra sizes can vary depending on the store. It’s best to stick with brands you love to avoid mismatched sizing—learn more about Lingerie Diva’s exclusive brand, Velvet Kitten, if you’re looking for consistently sexy styles with sizing you can trust.
  • Underwire bras do not cause breast cancer. Previous rumors of this issue have been debunked by scientists.
  • Very few women have perfectly symmetrical breasts. Usually, the left breast is larger than the right. It can be up to 20% larger in size.

    Find Your True Bra Size

The key to finding the perfect sexy bra for your body type is to get your true bra size. Especially if you have lost or gained weight recently, begun a new fitness regimen, or changed your diet plan, there’s a good chance your go-to bra is no longer the correct size. Some ways to know if your bra is not the right size:

    • Wrinkling in the bra cups
    • Underwire poking your breasts on the side
    • Band riding up
    • Breasts spilling over cups
    • Straps slipping down
    • Bra hiking up when you lift your arms

If any of these sound like you, it’s time to get fitted for your perfect sexy bra. Follow these steps to get your real bra size.

Step 1: Measure your band size

First, you will need to be either braless or wearing a non-padded bra. Measure around the bottom of the bra band, directly underneath your bust. Make sure that the measuring tape is level and snug—any gaps will give you skewed results. Round the measurement to the nearest whole number of inches. If that number is even, add four inches to it. If your measurement is an odd number, add five inches. The sum is your band size!

Step 2: Determine your bust size

To measure the size of your bust, wrap the measuring tape gently around the fullest part of your bust (usually this is across the nipples). The measuring tape should be somewhat loose. Round the measurement to the nearest whole number.

Both of your band and bust numbers are probably in the 30s or 40s. To find out your cup size, there’s just a little more math. Take the band measurement sum you got from Step 1 and subtract it from the bust measurement you rounded to. So, if your band size ended up being 36 and your bust was 40, you will subtract 36 from 40, giving you the number 4.

Step 3: Find your bra size

Once you’ve subtracted the band size from the bust size, find the letter your number correlates with on the below chart:

Now, you have your cup size! For your true bra size, all you have to do is put the band size with the cup size. In the above example, your band size is 36 and your cup size is D, making you a size 36D.

How to Tell if Your Bra is the Right Size

After you’ve calculated your true bra size, it’s wise to test out the size before buying a bunch of bras. At the end of the day, the feel of the fit can be the best way to determine if your sexy bra is the right size and the most flattering it can be. Try these tricks to test out your new bra size:

    • Bend forward at your waist, then put on the bra and secure it while bent. This method ensures your breasts are completely in the cups.
    • Adjust the bra band. To get the right fit, the back of the bra should be level with the front of the bra.
    • Is the bra too loose? You should only be able to slide one finger beneath the band; any more room means it’s too loose.
    • Fix slipping straps. Tighten the band first, then shorten your straps.
    • Slip on a tight-fitting shirt. If the bra cups pucker or your breasts bulge, you're not wearing the right size.
    • Check yourself out from the side. Get in front of a mirror and turn sideways. Your breasts should be sitting midway between your shoulders and elbows. If that’s not the case, you need a more supportive bra that fits better.

If you find that the bra size you calculated isn’t quite right, there are two additional tips for ensuring you get the correct size. If you need to try other sizes, go down one cup size and up one band size if your bra is too big. If the bra is too small, go up one cup size and down one band size. Example: If 36D is too big, try a 38C.

Additionally, you’ll want your bra to fit perfectly when it’s hooked on the outermost hook. Don’t worry about growing out of it—bras loosen and stretch out over time, so the tighter hooks will come in handy down the road.

Remember, it is advised to stick with a select amount of bra brands if you don’t want to experience inconsistent sizing. Start here for the sexiest bras on the market to find the perfect bra you’ve been hoping for—you’ll never have to shop for bras anywhere else again!
